A unique building for a 10 metre high internal ice climbing wall and glacier interpretive centre in Franz Josef Village. The mixture of pre-finished profiled metal claddings forms a skin over an exposed structural steel frame.

A large viewing window between the ice enclosure and cafe allows visitors to watch the climbers. Located adjacent to light commercial and residential scaled buildings, the ice climbing pit was sunk into the ground to reduce the overall size and bulk of the building.
